Your card’s travel portal prices every point at about a penny, then charges you points for the cash fare. A $4,772 fare costs 426,100 points because that is the arithmetic, not because the seat is worth it.
Airlines price the same seat off their own award chart, which has nothing to do with the cash fare. So we move your points to the airline instead. Same points. Same seat. A different price for it.

What counts as a booking
A booking is one person, one-way. A round-trip flight for one person is two bookings. A multi-leg journey with layovers is one booking, as long as it is a single one-way trip.
Your $1,000 is a prepaid credit, drawn down by the fees above. Unused credit does not carry over at renewal. All booking, change and cancellation fees are non-refundable.

When the credit is used, you pay the fees as they come. When it is not, it expires at renewal.
